Here's a different spin on things.
My husband ends up watching the kids on the nights and weekends while I work. I watch them during the day when they're not at school/pre-school; in between my appointments and preparing returns of course.
So hubby gets home after working a grueling 10 hour day, usually has to cook his own dinner, entertains the kids till bed time, does baths, stories and tucks them in. I don't think he complains mainly because he loves the extra income I bring in because it's not income we depend upon. It's our play money.
I really only work hard on taxes for a few months out of the year because I don't currently offer payroll/accounting services. That might change in the next year or two. After tax season, our lives go back to normal, whatever that may be.
It's normal for your spouses to feel lonely (at least if they like you it is . When my husband used to get sent out of town on jobs, I really missed him.
Look at it as a sign that those ladies still love ya! Or maybe they just miss their handyman being there to get the work done around the house. Or both. I have no doubt you'll make it up to them!!

We work together
My wife and I work together in our business (not real large, we'll do around 350 sets this year). She handles most of the phone calls regarding making appointments, getting additional info when it is required, and calling folks when thier taxes are done. But I think the part she gets the most ENJOYMENT out of is checking the returns as I finish them. It is her job to tell me when I'm wrong!!! She denies it but I swear that she has a little snicker on her face when she tells me I've screwed some numbers up. We spend more time together in the tax season than most other times.
