My prospective on the fees, etc.

I started my career as securities rep and then insurance agent. I was taught to align myself up with a tax preparer for referrals etc. Never had to much luck there so then I started preparing taxes for some of my selected investment and/or insurance clients, then I open my practice to everyone. Its has the potential to be a good prospecting tool for both securities and insurance business but it does not come with its problems. When I market a fixed annuity, just a simple app and if the clients check is good, I am looking at hundreds into several thousand dollars of commissions. I bust my butt and with some clients, take a lot abuse to earn that kind of money preparing tax returns but its the best way I know in my 25 yrs in Financial svcs to obtain and retain clients. I know my prices are low but this is how I work it. I give a big discount if the client completes in full my tax organizer. That is how I quote my pricing and at the same time not be locked into the quote if the client misses any sections of my tax organizer. My main thrust is the securities and insurance business. I loose a client here and there and some I substaintially increase so they would go away.

If any of you tax preparers on this board do not have your securities or at the least your insurance license, I suggest you obtain it.

That suppplemental money can be the difference of you having to accept clients you would prefer not to and not having to accept them.
