    Off-shore Workers

Taxpayer runs a submersible submarine around drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico (3 weeks on, 3 weeks off). His home is in Texas. His W-2 is from a Louisiana company showing all earnings as being LA earnings. He was told that the earnings for the time he is off-shore is not suppose to be taxed by LA.

Does anyone have experience in this area? Is offshore work only federally taxable? Thanks in advance.

Well you're taxed based on your residence and where you do the work. If he is neither domiciled in Louisiana, nor worked in Louisiana, it would seem to me that there is no Louisiana tax.

Yes, I have one too. Lives in TX and works on rig offshore of LA. Never LA tax withholding and no LA returned filed.
