    Rebate recovery

Ok. This drives me nuts. Have married filing separate couple. Two kids. In 2007 we gave both kids to wife because this created more child credit amount. In 2008 gave both kids to husband because income was down and again they got a larger child credit amount. Wife got the 300 each rebate for 2007 filing. Husband's 2008 return was held up. Now I find they are adding $600 to his return for the rebate recovery. I know it works this way for divorce couples if they change you they claim each year but MFS doesn't make sense to me. What say you?

It doesn't seem fair, but I think they just legally double dipped.

      once said:

"Anyone may arrange his affairs so that his taxes shall be as low as
possible; he is not bound to choose that pattern which best pays the
treasury. There is not even a patriotic duty to increase one's taxes.
Over and over again the Courts have said that there is nothing sinister
in so arranging affairs as to keep taxes as low as possible. Everyone
does it, rich and poor alike and all do right, for nobody owes any
public duty to pay more than the law demands."
