    Demutualization

I asked a couple of weeks ago about Prudential. Someone replied right away of what the stock price was at the time of the demutualization.

    Does anyone know about MetLife?

Originally these shares were deemed to have a zero cost basis, although there have been some court rulings to the contrary.

You may wish to check into those issues, first.

Alternatively, you can look up historical prices for MET on any good web site, including yahoo.com

You are right and I should have elaborated on my reply to the OP. IRS has declined to honor basis on these stock sales from demutualized companies and certain tax professionals have advised their clients to file protective claims for these, pending the IRS appeal. I already know about the Fisher case. But thanks for the info. Someone else reading this might not have known.
