    Study abroad, travel expense??

My new client studied in France. She has tuition expense.

Can she take her flight there as additional education expense?

Are you using either an education credit or the T&F deduction? Even if the foreign educational institution is deemed eligible, TTB p. 12-2 says transportation is a personal expense not qualified for a credit or deduction.

Or have you determined the tuition somehow qualifies as a Schedule A job expense? If so, TTB p. 4-25 says transportation between home & school is deductible.

If you determine no tax benefits are available for the tuition, then I would think transportation isn't qualified either.

I will look further into this and see if it qualifies on the Sch A. Thanks for the input!
