Illegal alien

Does anyone know how this situation could be handled? Some one asked me if I knew how to go about getting this situation corrected and I didn't know might not be a question for this board, but I thought someone might have a clue.

A 17, almost 18 year old boy, is in this country illegally. Family came from Haiti when he was about 5. So he did not have a choice about what happened. He is also deaf. The family is extremely poor.

Someone told the person that asked about this said something about him needing a sponsor. Know anything about that?

How can he go about changing his status, either being here legally or getting citizenship status?

Sponsorship of an immigrant generally refers to a commitment to provide financial support.

Our broken immigration system makes it a lot easier to get lawful immigrant status if you are, say, a biochemist from Norway than if you are, say, a tenant farmer from Guatemala.

The concept is not irrational. Policy makers don't want to take on loads of immigrants who have no skills and no way to support themselves. So the laws are much more favorable to those who have something to offer our economy.

The implementation of this concept has not worked well. We actually have quotas that limit the number of immigrants from each country, and it's different for each country. No one talks about this, but it's true.

Prospective immigrants can sometimes circumvent the quotas by showing that they will have adequate financial resources in this country.

That kid may need a sponsor, but he also needs a reputable immigration lawyer.
