A new client has moved to the hills of Tennessee from Florida. The lady warned me when she first called me that she had a very complicated return, with all manner of income and losses.
Today I asked if I could see her 2007 return. She gave me the folder, and I cringed when I saw it was prepared by H&R Block. I dreaded going through the information, and conjured up images of horror based on various other returns I had seen.
When I opened the return, every line item in the "Income" section had entries, except two. The "Adjustment" section had five entries. I spent over an hour poring over the 2007 return to acquaint myself with the taxpayer's situation, as well as look for potential errors to recover on an amended return.
Simply put, the return was a masterpiece. This guy really knew his stuff. Every detail was supplied, rational, and properly entered in the right places. Of course, I didn't verify every calculation, but this was obviously a well-versed tax professional.
I'm still dealing with her 2008 return, and quite happy to have a great source of information from her prior year. When she left Florida she divested herself of many of her complications, so my return will not be nearly as complex.
Hats off to "Bill" from some HRBlock office in Florida. "Bill" had been doing her return for a long time, and the local HRB office had arranged for her to have the same preparer.
I think of Gary, Oleander, and other very sharp Block people who post on this board. And now "Bill" wherever you are in FL. No more Block-bashing from me.
