OK, this one is new to me.
Client filed 2007 1040 last year and failed to claim grandchildren as dependents, although he was eligible to do so. We prepared amended 2007 1040 and mailed last week. Now working on 2008 1040 and determine that grandchildren do not meet requirements to be client's dependents for 2008. So, client can't pick up the RRC on the grandchildren on 2008 return because he doesn't have the dependents for 2008 and the IRS (I assume) is not going to mail him a check for the difference for the 2007 dependents because it's after 10/15/08.
How, if possible, does client get the RRC for the 2007 dependents who are not 2008 dependents? When they process the 2007 1040X will the IRS send the difference (I assume not)?
