STINKING!!! (literally) clients!

Do you have clients that come in that literally STINK???!!!! It happens 3 or 4 times a year, but I've had 2 in the last 24 hours. What is the deal???? I had to spray Lysol after they left (immediately, before I puked) and hoped they walked back in after forgetting something just to notice the "new smell".

Why is this happening to me?

I had a client today and several over the last few days that were in need of a shower. I didn't think much of it since we had a winter storm come through that knocked power out to over 30,000 homes in the area.

I've had two clients over the years that I dreaded scheduling an appointment with. One was a very fat women that walked with a cane and ALWAYS had to use the restroom before > during > and after her appointment. She would stink up the office and the bathroom. It got to the point over the years that I would not schedule anyone a half hour before and a half hour after her scheduled one hour appointment.

I felt sorry for her as she was very sickly>>She died at 80 years old a couple of years ago.

The second one was a gentleman that wore a bag ( I think he had Croans Desease ). He always smoked a cigar and always had to use my phone. He would show up a half hour early for his appointment and ask to use my phone. All half hour he would be on my phone. I asked what he was doing and he said, "Just catching up on some important calls". This went on for several years ( by the way, I added $50 to his bill).

He was another bathroom client. The last time I saw him, was when he appearently cleaned his bag in my bathroom and dropped it on the floor. He left without cleaning it up.

SO> I'll when you talk about stinky people, I have a quick solution> air spray. But for this guy there is no quick solution but to say good-bye forever. He was a $500 client with nothing but lies (a ceiling watcher).

My sympathy on the bag situation Bob. Wow and nasty.
I have a policy in my office "no public bathroom". I am in my grandparents house that was built in 1944. I use the excuse of bad plumbing and septic tank. Which is sorta true. If they need to use the restroom they can go to the fast food restaurant just a little ways down from my house and come back.

I had one customer that smelled pretty bad. He hasn't been by in several years but I would always use the Lysol after he left. Also had a few in the construction biz that would come in smelling. But they would always excuse themselves for smelling Several that work in restaurants come in smelling like grease but its better than the others I've smelled.

I am sure we have all encountered some really bad situations.

I know that I have been shocked on some of my Home and/or Business Visits to Clients ! Really lets you know how others Live or Operate their Businesses. I would be like Dany related in her post, only in reverse. Make sure I have my "own" water bottle with me, and that I had used the Fast Food Restaurant's Restroom down the street before I arrived at the appointment. And then take a really good bath once I got Home!

I am sure in our Profession we only encounter a few situations, can you imagine what the Doctor or Dentist encounters!

That could be a nasty thought. We have a few Mink farms in our area and when the employees come straight from work it is just a terribly disgusting stench. I try to spray down with the lysol, but the smell just sticks my dog goes nuts with the scent.

I had a client that worked at the local sewer treatment plant. Unknowingly, I scheduled his appointment so he could come here right after work. He worked in the office, not in the stench trench, but he still had that lingering odor that permeated his clothes and then my nostrils. I learned to schedule him on his day off as my last appointment of the day (just in case the smell stayed with him).

Then I have those clients that have kerosine heaters. They are the worst. Even their paperwork reeks of kerosine. I have clients notes to instruct me about late scheduling for those people too.

Stinking Clients

Reading the prior posts - it reminded me of a client I had maybe 15 years ago -
The guy worked as a sorter in the Town's garbage recycle dump.

My office stunk from that stuff for almost a week. I had to keep the windows open full width when I didn't have anyone else coming.

Why, what a timely observation! Client came in the other day and brought "adorable child" with poop filled pants, no diaper, crap leaking out everywhere. Client acts like he's completely oblivious to the horrible reek coming from the kid, not to mention the stuff running down kid's leg onto my carpet. I had to tell Client to take child home and get him cleaned up and we could talk later.
