    Single member LLC

    Farmer formed single member LLC. He has no employees, but pays out lots of machine hire and rent so has to send out 1099's. Does he have to get a new Fed ID#? The LLC has a different name, not the farmer's name. Does he then use this number on 1099's. I know there is something about disregarded entitities, (he will still just file a Sch F) and the numbers but I've been confused when reading. I thought I read that you could use either the SS# or the FED ID#, but wouldn't be more defining to the LLC to use the FED ID#? Can anyone give me a straight simple answer?

    He will need to get FEIN for single member LLC and use it for the 1099's. If it happened in the middle of the year you probably have to do 2 sets of 1099's.

      Thanks that was what I thought, but reading sometimes adds to my confusion of what is logical.
