    Am I stuck...

with purchasing new software? I just recently had to change computers and I have been unable to locate my installation disk for Quickbooks Pro 2005. I successfully copies all the program folders over to the new computer, but was not able to open the program. I tried double clicking the Win32exe icon, but got an message that program would not load. Called tech support, but they were unable to help. Only suggestion was to purchase the 2009 program, install it, and then I would be able to open the old company data files for my clients. Does anyone know of another solution? Feeling really stupid.

Unfortunately, computer programs are not contained entirely in their program folders. During installation, the program sticks a number of files in other locations as well as the program folder itself. Thus, certain system files are missing and the program will not work.

Either find your old software installation disk or buy a new program.

Since Intuit no longer supports the 2005 version, they will be of no help to you. However, you might try posting your problem over at the community forums on the Quickbooks website. Maybe someone there will be able to help, but as Bees said there are other files needed to run the program that are not located in the program folder.

You could fix it if you still have the old machine and they both use the same operating system but it would require a lot of time. QB makes a huge number of registry entries as well as the above mention problem of files scattered all over your hard drive.

Why not check and see if you can buy a 08 program somewhere. Do a Google or check E-bay, and see if there is an 08, or 07 program available. I would not buy 09, I have had too many problems with it.

            Freebies

There have been some free versions of QB offered lately and some deep discounts. Some have been through Staples. Watch the ads. Check the QB site.

Piglee, what type of problems are you having with QB 2009? Is your system XP or Vista?

                Thanks for the quick reply

                I found a 2008 version at Amazon for about $ 100.00.

I could not use quick books to do the online checks for several months, it was not compatible with B of A, they did fix that.
Lots of trouble balancing bank statements, the computer freezes up when I reconcile. Also freezes up when I want to print out a prior bank req.
You do not have the capability to change the reports as much as you used to. They want you to buy an extra module for that. The price is just getting higher.

I was using a Vista 64 bit, changed to a Vista 32 bit, but still having problems freezing up.

I really don't like Quick Books, but I started using it because people were using it and I needed to help them with their Quick Books. I just wish there was something else out there. It just needs to be SIMPLE, and work.

Dany, are you on XP or Vista?
Are you having some of the same issues Piglee described?
                        I haven't loaded mine yet!

I am using Vista 32 bit version. I haven't used the online banking part of it. No problems with freezing up so far. Yes it seems they are charging for the Financial Statement Writer now. I am not sure if Pro Advisors have access to it or not. I haven't even looked as I never have used it before. I ususally wait until the end of January to convert all my customers I do bookkeeping/payroll over to the new version so they can get the kinks out.

I know Vista 64 bit version can cause problems.

                            QB Accountants Premier Ed

I have the Accountants Premier Edition, so guess I will have to install and then see what happens and what I can access.

                            Thanks,

                            Sandy

How can you tell what version you have?
