    Rmd 2008/2009

My client planned to forego her first RMD in 2008 and take two distributions by April 2009. I assdume she can now forego 2008 and then just take one distribution in 2009 for 2008 and skip the 2009 RMD as it is no longer required to be taken. Anyone disagree?

That's how I plan to do mine. Take 1st in March 2009 (for 2008) and skip the 2nd for 2009 as not now required. 2010 is back on "normal" course.

I agree you can do that. However, keep in mind the 2008 RMD that is taken on 4/1/2009 must still be calculated based on the FMV of the account as of 12/31/2007.

Yes I'm aware, but I'm also "banking" on other tax law changes which may reduce the overall tax burden in 2009. I really don't want/need to take a RMD, just a current "fact of law".
