Due to a number of recent developments, our message board policy has changed. You will now need to have access to the password found on the last page of the index in the current year edition of TheTaxBook to access our message board, TheTaxAuthority Update Service, and our Links page. This password will change each year with the release of the latest edition. Users will have to re-enter the new password into their user profile once per year. If you are a current year customer but have not yet received your 2008 book, call 1-866-919-5277 and customer service will give you the password over the phone.

This question was asked earlier, by someone else.
How will it be handled by someone that works for a company that makes a purchase of several books. Will each book still have a number that will work for access?Only in government or politics is a "cut in spending" really an increase. It's just not as much of an increase as they wanted it to be, therefore a "cut". -
The password for tax year 2007 is printed on the last page of the index in the 2007 edition book and is identified as “Organizer Password.” The last page of the index in the 2008 edition book will have similar password information. Note that anyone in possession of a book (or WebCD) can see the password. So the method of purchasing or otherwise obtaining a book is irrelevant, as long as you have access to a book. The same password is printed in all books.Comment

The purpose of the password for the message board is to keep the general public from posting questions or posting links to inappropriate websites. At this time, we do not care whether they can view all posts.Comment

new password
I notice the password changes on 12/15. My order confirmation says the release date is 12/15. So I will not have my new book when the password changes. There is not an password on my order confirmation.
Guess I'll be shut out for a few days. (I know I haven't been on lately) But when you need to know something, it is nice to have access to this.

Good Point........ Maybe Brad should move that date to January 15...??? Unless you want your phone lines all tied up with request for passwords. Not good for getting new orders.I notice the password changes on 12/15. My order confirmation says the release date is 12/15. So I will not have my new book when the password changes. We will hold off deleting the 2007 password until a week or so after the initial shipment of the 2008 books.Comment

Lucky
Guess I was one of the lucky ones, I received an email confirmation on my 2008 order dated 10/9/08 and provided me with the 2008 Tax Year Password Code.
I am sure that the Board will make the proper decisions and allowances on extending the time for the password code for 2008 tax information and access.

Cookies
Brad, once having used the password, can the password attach itself to the "cookie" which accompanies our login? This would remove the need to enter password every time we wish to respond.
The effort for entering the password is minimal, but access may involve multiple screens. For example, each time I entered the password (a week or so ago) I was prompted to update my profile. That may be a separate issue from the password or a bug that needed to be worked out.Last edited by Snaggletooth; 12-04-2008, 11:12 AM.Comment

I’m not sure I understand your question. The new password found in the 2008 edition book is entered in your User Profile, which should never have to be re-entered again, until next year when the 2009 edition book is released. The other password that you pick at the time of registration that allows you to log in only needs to be entered once, provided you check the box that says “remember me.” There should be no need to keep re-entering a password when you post, unless you do not check the box “remember me” at the time you first log in.
The password for TheTaxAuthority update service should also only have to be entered once, provided you check the box “remember me.”
Now if you register and post with a number of different names, that is another issue which requires you to keep entering passwords every time you wish to change identities.Comment
