    Deadline for stimulus extended

    If you missed the Oct. 15 deadline for filing an income tax return for a economic stimulus payment, don't worry. You can receive a payment in 2009 by filing an income tax return when the filing season opens in January. The IRS will have more information shortly.

    I've come accross a few non filers who'll be happy to know that they still have time.

    The stimulas rebate was always a 2008 tax return issue. It was just an advance payment based on the 2007 return. Some that didn't qualify based on 2007 can qualify based on their 2008 tax return. This is also why the advanced rebate has to be accounted for on the 2008 tax return. Under the 2008 t/r you could qualify for more than you did on the 2007 t/r. If you qualify for less on the 2008 t/r you don't have to give it back.
