    Attention IntelliTax/OrrTax/TRX/Rebrand customers

    See http://www.intellitax.com/

If you purchased direct from ITI you'll be given TaxWise instead for the same price. If you bought through a service bureau (TRX and others) you may want to see how they're handling it, most likely the same applies.

        I'm Curious

Why have you stayed with the company when their tech support is problematic?

I'm also curious as to whether Taxwise includes the worksheets to calculate a Social Security Lump Sum and if so whether this is automatic if the prior year returns are in your system?

And finally, how often and for what issues have you resorted to forms and schedules that Taxwise does not support?

I left Intellitax because there were situations including the SS Lump Sum that I knew how to handle but only by going outside the program. I bought it from two different companies and both had absolutely great tech support but now I'm preparing to enter a tax season with Drake and I've never been happier going into a season. The only things I know of that cannot be done in Drake are F 1120-POL which is filed by political parties and professional politicians and whatever the Form is that is filed for Consolidated Groups of Corporations.

          Tax wise Customer Support

The ease of use of the program and I am able to instruct new preparers in its use very easily
out ways there customer support problems.

I have a client base that files very early and I seem to be the one that finds software problems during the first few days of e-filing. The wait for customer service during this time can be over a half hour.

I do not know if it supports the form you are talking about never ran into the problem.

You have to try Drake. The wait for Customer Service is not more than 3 rings anytime

I just received an email from Doug Hughes that states that the TW Pro software will be available at no additional charge for the Orr program. The efile for business will not be available as with it was not with Orr but he is checking on the possibility of PPR. TRX is in the process of moving into a new building and everything is on hold until Monday when the building inspectors inspected the facility.

When I used TW is did not have to call for support. It was that good. Of course I received basic training with the AARP TaxAide program. My first two years as a paid preparer I used TW and was happy with it. I left because of practices of their sales staff that left much to be desired/

                Taxwise support

Support calls are not needed frequently but are tough when needed Example 2007 season all DC returns filed over first weekend rejected (had 50).While waiting for customer service called preparer across the parking lot had same problem buy the time call was answered we had found the problem.DC does not accept hyphens in SS# told them the problem when they finally answered. If you do not a lot of returns in first few weeks things get better after that.

Taxwise has all the VITA locations plus all the military bases. They may need more help.

                  Abbrevations

Hey folks how about talking in the full names, some of us are not familiar with all the abbreviations, such as PPR and TRX. What are they. A code for us to desypher?

                  Thanks

Does this buyout in any way give a clue regarding the wisdom of taking advantage of early renewals in order to save the price of one medium-sized return? I think it's more important to wait until close to filing season in order to make a better-informed decision on something that is going to have the most important direct impact on every thing you do between Jan and Apr. No need to accept the risk of some corporate buyout making that decision for you and denying you the flexibility to do what's in your best interests.

                      PPR = Pay Per Return.

TRX = Tax Refund Xpress, but nobody writes it out that way. In fact a lot of people probably don't even know what it stands for, or care. I mean what does ATX stand for? I don't know! TRX has a website at trxalliance.com. They used to be the cheapest way to get IntelliTax. Now they may be the cheapest way to get TaxWise.

                        Military Time

                        Thanks:

Another question unrelated to taxes. Does any one know how to enter military time in the Excell spreadsheet and generate a difference in the two military times to get a total time spent on a project using military time?
                        Example: 13:42 End 10:02 Start Total time = 3 Hours 40 minutes

                        Thanks

You can format the cells for military time entry. Just highlight the cells, select "Format", select the "number" tab, then under "Category" you select "Time". The "Type" for military time should be the first selection (on my version it's "13:30"). Click "OK" and you're done.

You just have to remember to enter the time using a colon ":" for the hour/minute separator. The math to compute the difference between the beginning and ending time is just a simple subtraction - nothing special needed. BTW, it's always a good idea to lock the calculating cells when you finish formatting.

                            Here's what the website says:

We are proud to announce CCH Taxwise has purchased Intellitax. TRX will continue to offer TRX Pro Alliance members a software package similar in value and features which will now be written by Taxwise instead of Intelliax. The Taxwise package that we offer will be superior in quality and more robust than the software package formerly offered TRX Pro alliance members.

Sounds to me like we won't get TW Pro but instead will get a specialized version that works with the old TRX PRO for easy conversion. They do after all charge $400 more for the TW version. I hope they give us significant details ASAP.

Are you going to the training program in Tennessee?
