Fact Pattern:
A taxpayer lives in Minnesota and works as an electrical repair telephone wire person and went to assist in the rebuilding of Katrina and other disasters. I have taken all his temporary living expeses such as per diem for food and actual bills for hotels.
He is telling me there is a special tax credit because he went to help out and slept in a tent for three months. I read pub 4492 and saw benefits for employers and for victims and some for volunteers but not anything for employees of power companies who went down to help.
Would somebody put me on the right track?
Thanks.
