    Electronic File

On efiled returns for timely filed, does the date go by transmission or acceptance?

Example on "piggyback" states, based on 2006 tax filing.

Transmission 10-13-07 to efile software provider
    IRS acceptance 10-14-07
    Piggyback State acceptance 10-16-07

    Is this timely filed?

I am finding that "piggyback" efiled states take as much as 2-4 days longer for the acknowledgement.

I currently have one in that has been "stuck" in a "piggyback" state for 3 days.

    Sandy,
I would think the transmission date would be the "postmark" for the filing of your return and would be considered timely filed.

Will your software print out a report you can verify the transmission date? If so I would print that out and keep in the file.

      What about direct debit?

Can we still pay by direct debit on a return filled this afternoon/evening/night and be timely paid? Or, not timely since the funds are not likely to be withdrawn until tomorrow or later even for the states?

        Done

Transmitted our return, hopefully my last of this season. Will it be based on the transmission time and on time? And, what about our direct debits? I know mailing tomorrow will be a 16 October date, but didn't know about how a direct debit will be dated, so went with direct debit. Anyone know for sure on either of these issues? My head aches. Have one kid who didn't return signature page after frequent urging to his mother, so might have one more to do tonight.
