Troubled client of mine recieved a CP 501 asking for a confirmation of address. Any reason for this? He has since moved but did not file a tax return or extension yet for this year.

true but
He doesnt live there anymore. It is his parents house and they gave it to him. I've had this client for two days and I've already taken more motrin than I have all year. He came to me as a financial planning client and I discovered he did not file a 2007 return. He is now unsure if he filed for 2005 and 2006 also. I asked him if he has recieved ant IRS correspondence and he gave me this CP 501
I'm sure the IRS is getting ready to pounce.

CP501's are usually notices of intent to levy. There will be 3 more, the final notice is CP504, which will come as a certified "green label" letter. He has at least 4 months to get his act together.
These are only issued if tax has been assessed. If he didn't file a return for the year in question, the IRS would have had to do a SFR in order to assess it.
He better file a change of address form so that he gets his mail. IRS mail is not forwarded.
