I think, just like if the hubby forges a paper return, if he forges an 8879, our due diligence has been satisfied (well, if its a good forgery...the 'my wife is in the car' doesn't work for me.)
Nothing is foolproof. But I do NOT file until I have all 8879s properly signed. I usually get them back faxed or emailed within a day or so.
