I have client that thought her father was paying her last year of law school and after graduation in 2006 she found out that if was not paid. Therefore, in 2007, when she is not in school, she has to pay the whole year's tuition for 2006.
She has received a 2006 1098-T showing box 2 $8100 with only $2062 PAID in the bottom detail. On the 2007 1098-T is showing all $.00 on the form with the bottom detail with payment of $12,572.00 being paid throught out the year.
Is there any way of her taking this deduction? I have to amend the 2006 anyway because she did not claim herself because, again, she thought her father claimed her.
Thanks for any help .
