Two things happened within one day with the same client that I never dreamed of could happen. This is a client I am glad to loose with several years of unfiled return and starting a do it yourself corporation. Since February I tried to get all the information to start doing one of the tax returns, then I realized I am getting close to be part of tax evasion (I least I think I did) and put the screws on my client, so she found someone else.
This is what happened:
1. She came with a letter from this "someone else", telling me what to give to my client and what to do with my POA. Mind you, I am an EA, he has a lot of impressive titles behind his name (his whole signature area covered 25% of his letter), BUT NONE of these titles are tax or accounting related. I mean, if I had refused to work with my client I could understand a letter like this...But then, one never knows what clients tell...
2. The morning of this same day I faxed my revoked POA to the IRS. After my client left in the late afternoon, just out of curiosity I wanted to check the records again. This revocation was already recorded, or whatever happened that my access was denied.
I am sure that this client will come back (I had her sign that she got all her records back and gave her a week if she thinks she has not) to haunt me. I am learning my lessons. In the short encounter she mentioned that the accountant who she worked with before, "had the papers on her desk for a year and didn't do anything". We all know what was told to the new guy. I was so glad that I had recently written a letter to her and setting her a deadline to give me all missing information. End of rant.
