Student paid by school
No, you're good to go. See TTB 5-18:
"A student of any age working for a school... exempt from FICA...if student attends classes..."
There is no FICA requirement, so student would not need to file. Since it's in box 3, IRS should be down with that, too. (It would go on line 7, or line 21, not Sch C.)Leave a comment:

Kid in school gets a 1099 Misc for $500? She has to file as an independent contractor, right?
The payer was the schoool. i don't know why the school did that, 1099-misc, box 3 -- 'other income.'
No way around it though, is there?
