Here's perhaps part of the answer to delayed refunds. Remember above when I was posting
snippets of returns filed to date thru March12th?
Well, total receipts (returns received) by IRS is down 2.9% compared to last year, but
returns processed is down 4.9% from last year. This indicates that they're not processing
them as fast as last year.
Last year the lag was 3.2 million returns, and this year's lag is 4.6 million returns.Leave a comment:

Form 5695?
Just received another inquiry and refund delay from 3/19 to 4/06. Every single delay I've checked has the form 5695.Leave a comment:

Delay also
My parents refund was delayed a week. They don't have any credits. Just retirment and SSA benefits.
I also tell my clients the date the IRS releases money and that there is no guarantee on the actual date they will receive the money. But of course they never hear all of that.Leave a comment:

I tell every person the same thing, "This is not a guaranteed date, so don't spend it before you get it and if it's not in your account on that exact date don't panic"!Leave a comment:

I believe this is not the only year that refunds are delayed. The acceptance of a return by the IRS is an automatic process, so is the refund date. However, only later they decide which returns they want to take a closer look at, hence the delay.
What is different this year is that they want to look at more returns for various reasons.
In a way form 9325 is worthless and maybe we have to start to caution our clients with something like: If everything is going well you can rely on the date shown on form 9325.Leave a comment:

My own return has been delayed!
I was supposed to get my refund last Friday. Then it said it would be deposited on 3/16. Now it says it is processing. My return did contain a $252 energy credit. I'm from Michigan.Leave a comment:
