    2008 Estimated Tax Vouchers

My clients have still not received their 2008 estimated tax vouchers. Has IRS stopped sending them?

    Thanks,
    Donna

    My 2 cents

I would hope that IRS quits sending them, as I prepare them with the amounts in my computer system each year and provide to the clients based on information provided or projected.

Talk about tax dollars at work, and at what expense!

Maybe the IRS could send only to those clients that do not use a tax professional instead of duplicating our efforts.

I think they did! At least I think I read this on the IRS site, or maybe it was a dream I had. I'm 99% sure I read it - Paid preparers are suppose to print & supply.

        If it is true

Well if that is true it will eliminate a whole lot of phone calls from clients for me that I receive each year.

You know how "panic stricken" clients are when they receive something in the mail from the IRS, and most always 99% of mine, are these "darned 1040 ES packages".

That will save the taxpayers a few dollars!

Yes maybe that will make up for the cost of printing & mailing the stimulus notices!?!

            IRS efficiency?

I find this to be an interesting question. Many of my clients for years have been receiving both federal and state estimated payment forms/envelopes, and I merely calculate the amounts which they use. Only when "something changes," or for new filers, do I ever actually print the forms. So far everyone has been happy using that scenario.

With that in mind, are you perhaps saying the tax returns being marked as "professionally prepared" are now also telling the IRS not to print any estimated forms? I know that, at least in this state, apparently preparer-printed state estimated tax forms are soon replaced with "the real thing."

              I was partially correct.

This from NATP's website: "Here’s another opportunity for you to "stay in front of your clients" throughout the year. The IRS has discontinued mailing paper Form 1040-ES, Estimated Tax for Individuals, vouchers and envelopes to your 1040-ES clients who file electronically. 1040-ES filers who file a paper return will receive only one mailing instead of quarterly mailings. Take the place of the IRS here and remind your clients to make their payments every quarter. While you’re at it, market yourself and ask if there is anything you can do for them. More information is in the Form 1040-ES instructions available on the IRS website."

But it's for anyone that e-files according to this, not just if a paid preparer files.

                Clients had asked

Several of my clients had asked about this and last year they didn't send them out until sometime in March. So I told them that if they don't have them by the end of March to let me know and I would print them out for them.

I wish I had known....I would have printed them when I did the return.

                  Calif

Well Calif neve sends out ES vouchers, so I would have to print those anyhow, so I have always provided my clients with both 1040ES and 540ES vouchers, or any other state vouchers for that matter.

It has always be a nuisance for the t/p to receive the 1040ES vouchers in March or April or even later in some cases. If I provide the vouchers with the tax return on the pre-extensions, the clients know and have available the vouchers and envelopes to make their payments timely.

At least with efile if the post that Jesse provided is correct that will eliminate some of the vouchers being mailed to the taxpayer.

Good info; thank you! This explains why some folks have received them, and others haven't.

Thanks for the info. I will need to catch up with some clients who only got the first coupon from me, thinking the IRS will be sending the coupon book soon.

                          1040 Es

I always print the estimated coupons for my clients and include Stamped, addressed envelopes with them for my clients who want them. This I feel is part of the service provided for my clients.

                            Irs

has not discontinued sending the 1040 EST forms out. They are being received in mail boxes
                            even now.

Didn't help of course that IRS people locally also misinterpreted what IRS national office put out
and told one fellow that and that he would have to take a number and wait his turn in order to
request some blank forms from them.

He said .... well, I won't repeat it here, and stormed out their door.

This came direct from NATP's newsletter and I would think they would have their ducks in a row.

The 2008 Form 1040-ES instructions do instruct TIP: If you do not want to receive the vouchers and envelopes, simply begin making your estimated payments electronically or file your return electronically.

I did not take the time to look up the instructions for 2007, but if you are saying it's bogus for 2008 then possibly this will take place in 2009 for 2008 efilers?
