    Child's Support Test

To determine if a child living at home is a qualifying child in regards to support I have used the following approach.

Child's contribution to his/her support is their income not put in savings minus withholding taxes + amounts paid by the child's loans (education).

Parent's (and others) support: child's share of the total lodging expense, + all of child's expenses paid for by the parents and/or others out of their own funds.

If the child paid less than the parents and/or others, the support test is satisfied.

This is a simple approach that I think is valid. I think the IRS worksheet is too complex.

    Anyone agree or disagree?
