    IRS Lttr 2626C

Client first received CP2000 letter. Balance due was correct and paid in time then TP received a 2626C letter asking the TP & spouse to sign to authorize the IRS to change their tax return and due by July 15th. The CP2000 letter had to do with failing to report SS income. TP way hospitalized in early July and has not yet been released. I will finally be able to get the TP & Spouse to sign 2626C letter tomorrow. Should an explanation letter accompany about TP being hospitalized?

    Add if you want

Nothing to lose by adding the explanation. You are in agreement with the change and tax was paid so there won't be any late payment penalty just the usual interest back dated to April 15.
