    Dependent SSN Identity Theft

In the case where the return rejects because of ID theft of the dependent's SSN, who signs the 14039? The form says "if you are filing this form because the primary or secondary SSN on the return was misused...." The dependent really can't sign a form as she DID file (not claiming herself) and her's processed just fine. So she, herself, does not have an issue. I do not want to remove her from the parent's return and e-file without her pending resolution of this issue, because that causes him to owe BIG bucks due to the college credits, PTC issues, etc. etc. So have both parents (MFJ) each sign a form?

The parent should sign as authority for the minor. The IRS will accept the form.
Believe nothing you have not personally researched and verified.

Ok. (Child not technically a minor as she is a college student over 18, but claimed as dependent on parents' return.) I think this will be a trip downtown to the IRS office after 4/15.
