    W-2 Codes

Found this on a military discussion board, so maybe it will help.

    Box. 12.
D- Elective deferrals to a section 401(k) cash or deferred arrangement. Also, includes deferrals under a SIMPLE retirement account that is part of a section 401(k) arrangement.
    Q. Non-taxable combat pay. See the instruction for Form 1040 or Form 1040A for details on reporting this amount

Box. 14. Any amount in box 14 should be coded. The following explains the codes.
E- Military TSP contribution (Tax Exempt)
T- Cost of Living Allowance (not included in box 1 or 16).
W- Social Security Administration (SSA) Wages (Military) SSA wages earned on active duty is informational only. It is supplied to the SSA for "Deemed Military Service Wage Credits" and used to determine future SSA benefits.
