For those of you who prepare form 2290 heavy vehicle highway use tax returns, which is due August 31 each year, the deadline has been extended until November 30. Returns should not be filed before Nov. 1, and it applies to trucks first used during July, August Or September of the tax period beginning July 1, 2011.

Splitting the tax
Can the tax be split into semi-annual payments of $550, or even quarterly payments of $275?
It is a hassle to split the payments like this, but it is my understanding that if a truck is sold or
just sits without operating, the tax (or whatever portion has been paid) is not refundable.Comment
