    Stand alone States

    From IRS notice:

    Federal/State Tax Returns:
State Standalone (Unlinked) tax returns will not be impacted by Extender legislation. In order for standalone/unlinked returns to be accepted, the state must be participating in the State Standalone program and the Transmitter/Software Developer must NOT include an IRS Submission ID in the State Manifest. State Standalone returns may be either submitted in the same transmission (Send Submissions) as the federal return or in a different transmission.

    Stand Alopne States

I don't think I want to be filing a Stand Alone State prior to finalizing the Federal return..
Example" I believe California is a Stand Alone State for Efile, however, the Calif return is predicated on the Federal Information to arrive at the tax liability.

If I file the California return before the Federal is finalized, and there is a reject or correction on Federal, and I have to make a change, and I file the California return without that information, then I have to paper file an amended return for California.

Had that with dependents, etc on California. It is a mess to "clean up"
