    501 non profit

client is State Music Teacher Association, a nonprofit organization. A meeting was held in a central location within the state. Most persons attending are not w-2 employees but rather volunteers. Can the organization give reimbursements for mileage higher than the $.140 charity amount? If so, does the organization then issue 1099's? The trip was 500 miles for most attendees so can get to be expensive for the nonprofit group.
    Thanks for the help.

    501 Non Profit

So long as the amount paid to any one individual member isn't above the $ 600 threshhold I don't see where a 1099 form is necessary.

Why can't the organization send a cover letter to each attendee acknowledging their attendance to the event and let the individual member be concerned with the tax consequences?

This should have been negotiated BEFORE the event, not afterwards.
