    depreciable life for a sign

I am a bit confused on the depreciable life for a sign for business, 7 yrs?

IRS Pub 946, page 16 lists signs attached to a building as tangible personal property, and as such eligible for Section 179. If it is tangible personal property and not real property, then the MACRS life (assuming you are NOT taking 179) would probably be 7 year property by default, as I don't see it listed in any other class life.

Assuming the building wasn't built by placing colored bricks at various angles throughout the side of the building creating the name of the company permanently. Then 39 years!

(I'm picking up as of yesterday afternoon so you will be spared any more bad jokes.)
