    Road's end

Miraculously, everybody has shown up. Frantically alternating between bloviations here and actual work there. Five to go, not including mine. I've just got to go to work on it. I don't know why I cain't get my own done, but the analogy of it is my client, the auto body repairman who drives the worst-looking car in town (no small achievement here in Dogpatch).

Anyway, I plan to lurch into my stuff tonight. I already completed my S corporation return for Black Bart Boondoggles, Inc. last month (well, sort of, I didn't fill out that AAA stuff--it's beyond me why IRS wants to know all about the state of my membership in Alcoholics Anonymous).

Must do my office rent business and not forget to write off all the newly installed indoor plummin (the sky's the limit-who knows?-runnin' water today-A/C tomorrow). Say, Armando, the tenant's sort of a transient type who sleeps there quite a bit when his wife kicks him out. Since that's lodgin' of a sort, do you think I could get by with 179 on it?

Also, gotta do my cousin Millie's hardware and pedicure LLC, "Arkansas Nails and Toes," sometime before sundown. I'm off to start complyin' eth-ickly with th' law.

    Progress

Bart, it seems you have made some progress, but since the Government so kindly gave you a couple of extra days for filing, you are dragging out the time for completion!

I hope you are tirelessly plodding along completing Cousin Millie's rturn , and have completed your return for review before finalizing for mail on Monday, and the other 4??

Sundown is not too many hours away.

Just think after Monday, you can take the rest of the week off!

You are most mistaken. The IRS wants to know about your safe driving habits. It's your Automobile Club membership for which they are seeking information. That's of course in column a. Column b is to be filled out according to how well you obey the seat belt laws - have you had to make any adjustments to the seat beats, etc. Column c is for any money which your corporation may have left over and not distributed yet this year is identified here and then you have to December 31st to use it up or it is turned back over to the sharecroppers.

        Fortune

Okay, I just finished mine. Fortunately I made a little money. Unfortunately, I gave it all to Intuit. Fortunately my wife works too. Unfortunately, she doesn't know we haven't filed yet. Fortunately we're getting a refund. Unfortunately, we still owe for the year before.

Thanks for the concern, Sandy. I'm plodding, but not tirelessly, more like a zombie. I'm beat. You? I'll be okay if the B-12's, valiums, aspirins, and blood pressure pills hold out. I wonder why we go through this last minute madhouse every year and not just let them bring in their stuff or not (actually, I guess, in a perverse sort of way, I enjoy the frantic mad scramble to get a bunch of complicated mess and gom done under pressure).

We made it through the rough part and everybody's done (including Millie) except for a couple of people who are in the computer--I'm waiting for them to call in info first thing (they say) this morning to get it all punched, crunched, and mailed by day's end.

Wish I was like dmj4 who's off to the Florida dunes (sounds great doesn't it?). But, unfortunately, I've gotta send Uncle Sugar a thousand bucks or so and..... (hmmm, maybe I'll just put in on American Express and go anyway) ....surf, sand, crablegs...sounds pretty good doesn't it---I can hear the white water waves breaking at the beach now...soft guitars at day's end, banana daiquiris, & golden-painted sunsets....well, I'm going somewhere!

            Midseason Form

Black Bart - you are in midseason form! No more "blue funk" until further notice...

Even that evil stoic defender of partnership returns for lemonade stands, Armando Bourealis, is taking note. Not to mention the ever-vigilant Jainen...

Now, J. G., ain't you sumpn'. That's more like it (makes sense), by George. Listen, do I really have to adjust those seats by beatin' 'em? They're pretty well beat rat now, being 1972 models and all; I don't thank they can take much more without poppin' a spring.

As to money left over, you can forget that. It's been in short supply ever since Millie's brothers (the "Twins"-nobody knows who's who-they got first names but everbody just call's 'em "Twin"--wouldn't be surprised if they sign their names as "Twin Halfacre") got us to invest in their precious gems scheme. That deal went south last spring when the dumb Twin got to wonderin' 'bout cashin' in his stash of gemstones he'd bought from the Wingding Corporation of New York. His brother, the smart Twin (you can tell him by his "intellectual" manner) said that, by George, he'd check it out. Well sure enough, he did and you know what those ****yankees told him? They told him that, yes, the jewelry he bought was absolutely good solid merchandise, that he'd got an exceptional deal by paying a mere $500 for such rare gemstones which were potentially worth thousands and thousands of dollars, that they did not make that kind of deal for just anybody and that all he had to do was wait for the South African diamond market to level out in four or five years and ever'thing would be just larrupin'. Well, Twin was determined to get our money back anyway and generously offered to sell the loot back to them for half-price. Well, it beats all, but, instead of snapping up that bargain, they (can you believe it?) hung up on that Twin. The line stayed busy all that day and was disconnected the next. I don't guess those folks know a good deal when they see one.

Anyway though, we've got a chance to get our money back. Smart Twin was in the office they other day and told me he had another sure-fire deal goin'. I asked him what was it, and, lookin' around both ways to make sure he wasn't overheard (you can't be too careful where investments are involved), he leaned over the desk and quietly whispered to me, "Rent Houses!"

We didn't get a chance to discuss it in depth, but I'm real optimistic about makin' a big splash when we get in real estate.

Hi. Didn't mean to ignore your post. Had to run to McD's to get an egg biscuit. Boy, that girl (must bite my tongue--that's a PC faux pas-calling her a "girl," but she is a girl, so what else can I call her?) has the nicest smile. Think I'll tell her tomorrow. Nothing like a nice smile from somebody to brighten up your day, hey?

Wheel of fortune, eh? Well, them's the breaks! Me too--made a little, spent a lot, no refund but last year's is already paid.

(Note to John of PA) Re Jainen's statement of "I gave it all to Intuit;" that's what Sandy and I were talking about the other day. It is a good company (with the notable exception of competing with us vis-a-vis their "free-file" program), but we think they're too high on their software price. Sandy got bad tech support; I got good (that's subjective), but I just couldn't' afford them anymore. Still, I loved the way the prog did stuff automatically for me; I have to really watch it with my no-frills ATX .

My wife works too, but, fortunately, it's here in the office with me. Don't know what I'd do without her to fend off the backshooters.

Didja get all your stuff finished?

                    No October Crowd

Bart, no October crowd for Snag. I have a small practice, and once I get past Aug 15th, that's the end of it.

I would have a few, except most of them don't know they can wait until October 15th. Some of them have heard, but I discourage it. These are the people who could have everything ready by February 1 if they wanted to.

Last guy who asked about filing in October, I told him that August 15th was automatic, but he could wait until October 15th if he would provide a reason for the extension. I asked him to write IRS a letter explaining why he couldn't file by August 15th, and that was the end of it -- he is now an eternal Aug 15th filer. Instead of dumping his stuff on October the 14th, he dumps it on me Aug 14th. If there were no such thing as ANY extension whatsoever, he would dump it off on Apr 14th like a few others do.

It's amazing the stories you hear why people can't have their stuff ready. The same folks year after year. To quote Shakespeare, "The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars but in ourselves."
