1040 Filing with Foreign Spouse and Dependents without SSN

This is similar to a 3/2015 thread (Urgent TP Filing 1040 Spouse is an Alien; How Do I File) but with a twist.

I have a long-standing client who got married in October 2015 to a non-US citizen. His new bride is also the mother of two young dependents. The bride did not work in the US at all last year. While they have applied for whatever they need to do for a SSN, neither the bride nor the dependents have them yet.

I’ve calculated that it will be best for the taxpayer (my original client) to file as MFJ, claim the dependents and reduce his tax liability. (Because of his income, EITC is not an issue).

I’m planning on paper-filing the return along with a W7 and the original documents for the new spouse.

I wanted to clarify: Do I also need to apply for ITINs for the dependents and include their documentation as part of the submission?

Once I complete the return, I can drop this off at the nearest IRS service center (Andover, MA) which I assume may help speed up the W7 processing.

Please let me know if I’m missing anything.
