    Louisville KY privelege relief

Don't expect thousands of respondents on this thread, at best maybe just one or two who are familiar with this.

Louisville has a particularly nasty (as in a lot of money) local privelege tax. Does anyone out there in horse/whisky country have any ideas for relief?

I've worked through the thing, and if I follow the numbers, I calculate a very high privelege tax for small businesses trying to do business there.

Your response might be - "Idiot, just follow the numbers and whatever will be will be..." Well, that's exactly what I am doing. Kentucky is not supposed to be one of those tax avaricious states which abound in the northeast and west coast.

The sad truth is there may not be any vehicles for relief, but I can't imagine any town (at least in Kentucky) assessing such a confiscatory tax on its businesses, especially small businesses. I know we have one regular member from nearby Radcliffe (as in Ft. Knox) who might have some helpful information. Ft. Knox might even be where all this money is going...

Sorry for such a late reply, I just now noticed the message. Are you referring to Occupational Tax in Louisville?

Bonnie, I am "Nashville" from another computer/browser, so I'll answer. Thanks for your response.

Since October, I have looked at the ordinance which established this tax, and there are a few exemptions. Two of the noted exemptions were 1)Manufacturers of Alcohol products and 2)Horse Racing Tracts.

Looks like my customer (who is not politically connected as the above groups) has to pay without the benefit of any relief. But if you know of anything which can reduce the tax bite, we would love to hear about it...

Nothing I know of but I'll keep my eyes and ears open and if I find anything will be sure to let you know. I am about 30 miles south of Louisville, just outside Ft Knox, so don't deal a lot with Louisville occupational tax. I do have one customer coming next week who pays it so will take another look. I do have several clients who work in Louisville but they have W-2s. Actually I didn't even realize those 2 exceptions existed so that's very interesting
