    PTIN Sign Up

IRS fixed my problem....sign up worked OK

Has anyone been able to sign up yet.

After completing the application the IRS site comes up with a techinical error problem and ask me to cancel application.

A few days later try again. the application is still there and filled out correctly, get the same error message.

I was able to sign up this morning. What should have taken ten minutes required more than an hour.
NO dashes are allowed for the social security number or employer identification number.
I was required to enter my address FOUR times. Once should be enough.
For our date of birth we must enter forward slashes as 07/16/1936.
When I tried to charge the $62.50 cost, the instructions said to enter the 3 digit number
ON the signature line on the back of the Visa Card. That would not work. The number which
is to the RIGHT of the signature line is the number required. They only want
the first 5 digits of your zip code but they do not tell you this. There is a list of countries which
we must scroll down through and USA is almost at the bottom of the list. It should be at the top.
    And on and on.

          Sorry

I meant my fees are going up.

The IRS fees for a number we already had are ridiculous not to mention the aggravation the process has caused.

I have registered and I have also paid my fee. I got the confirmation of payment. But I did the registration in a hurry so I did not pay enough attention at the end to what they said. Is there any way now I can check my current status and whether I keep my old PTIN or not?

I did the same thing. My application said something like "pending" on the web site for several days, but eventually it showed up with my old PTIN.

                  So then

I figured maybe all the bugs had been worked out by now and started my registration process today.

Got as far as entering income tax year and the other data on that page but NEXT told me that IRS could not verify me as a valid tax filer.

I'm amazed, cause I've been a very good customer of IRS over the years spanning 6 decades. And yet, they don't KNOW me?

Harlan, remember you are from Alabama.

If they can't identify you as a valid tax filer, do you think you can request all of your past tax liabilities that you paid in?

But no, Jiggers, I am NOT from Alabama. I am a Georgia boy and will die a Georgia boy. Just so happens i'm a temporary resident of Alabama for the last 32 years, though.
