    Sooooo close.....

Favorite aunt called today. Appears that her hubby (getting divorced) failed to file their tax return. And they are going to owe.

I'm not charging for this, so I don't have to sign the return - right?

You get to sign as "non paid preparer".

        My Vote

Non Paid Preparer - Prepared for Family Member

Just make sure Family Member understands that you are preparing based on info that they provided to you and that you reported based on that info, no liabilities on your part, you are merely preparing based on info provided (how conveniently they forget sometimes)

I would keep copies of all info they provided to prepare return in my file for future reference.

        Don't Sign as paid preparer
