Tax Benefits for Parents of Children w/Learning Disabilities

I have a client that has approached me about credits and/or deductions available for parents of children with learning disabilites. I do not see where there are such credits or deductions. Is there something I am overlooking?

    Learning Disabilities

I take it that you mean elementary and high school age students. I would explore the area of medical deductions for these parents. Much of special education qualifies for medical costs. I know that many public schools will bill private insurance companies for some of the costs of special education.
Then again depending on the age of the children, Dependent Care Costs might kick in for learning disabled children. Worth checking out.

Yes... the children are under age 18.

        disability deductions

Check your state laws, our state has a special deduction for "severely disabled" children.

          similare question

I have a client who's child was recently diagnosed with dyslexia. We spent about 30 minutes trying to determine if the tutoring qualifies for medical deduction. We arrived at the answer of yes, because a licensed psychologist is administering the tutoring. If the kid down the street were doing the tutoring I would say no.

That was just our situation, might not answer your question.

Well, this article pretty much covers the general items that have already been hit on by the board members here. One thing I might not have though about is the HSA / FSA funding of these medical expenses.

That was the EXACT article he brought me. I do not see any deductions that are specific to children w/learning disabilities. There are the obvious deductions that may be allowed for medical but it doesnt seem like there are any deductions that I was not aware of.

              Thanks for everyones input.
